COUNTDOWN ON TO OPENING

Get ready – we’re bringing a new dimension to boutique, inner-city living.

The countdown is on with just four weeks until the opening of Montague Markets & Residences.

And testimony to the Pradella vision, buyers have already snapped up more than 80 per cent of apartments in first stage of the project.

The outstanding response from customers has already prompted fast-tracking of the second stage, Ferry Residences, many months ahead of schedule.

This will be a major milestone in our 60-year history of creating high quality properties and the 20th project delivered in the 4101 postcode, offering an unparalleled lifestyle as well as a much-needed lifestyle hub for the suburb.

We are now in the final stages of preparations for our mid-September opening, with the finishing touches for internal fitout being applied to the apartments, as well as many of the shops within the Montague Markets retail precinct.

We are also currently installing thousands of lush, subtropical plants to make the expansive landscaped spaces come alive.

Stage 1 of Montague Markets features 89 luxurious one, two and three-bedroom apartments, along with alfresco dining and a vibrant public plaza.

A new full-line 3,400sqm Woolworths supermarket – the first for West End – will feature within the retail precinct along with a BWS and about 15 specialty retailers.

Woolworths Queensland Property Manager, Phillip Peel, said the fit-out of the supermarket was well under way.

“We are halfway through our four-week fit-out period. All the refrigeration is in and we are now setting up the cash registers,” said Mr Peel.

“Within weeks we will have stocked the store so that everything will be fully functional when Montague Markets is officially launched.”

Montague Markets will showcase more than 2,000 square metres of private recreational facilities including a lush rooftop skygarden with panoramic views of the entire city skyline.

A lagoon pool and shaded lounge deck, outdoor cinema with sculpted viewing platforms, yoga space and lawn area with a waterfall backdrop will add to its ambience.

Residents will also have exclusive access to a covered pizza terrace and outdoor oven, a private recreation room and lounge, as well as an outdoor bar and dining area.

AWARD-WINNING TIGERLAMB TO OPEN NEW SALON

Award-winning Tigerlamb hair salon will bring a sense of glamour and sophistication to women’s styling when it opens at Montague Markets this spring.

The design of the new 106 square metre salon will showcase Tigerlamb’s signature ambience with extensive use of decorative stencilling, calming spaces and stage lighting, offering customers a retreat from the world outside.

Tigerlamb owner Helen Owens

It’s a place for pampering and “a little bit of affordable luxury,” according to owner Helen Owens.

“The new retail precinct at Montague Markets represents an exciting opportunity for her business,” she said. “We’ve worked hard to build a name in Brisbane synonymous with beautiful styling and creating a phenomenal experience for our customers.

“West End is so progressive and we’re excited to be part of it all, and especially within this development by Pradella, who we are huge fans of.’’

With salons at Bowen Hills, Portside and Coorparoo, Tigerlamb has carved an enviable reputation for quality, and is a finalist in seven categories of the upcoming Queensland Hairdressing Industry Awards this year alone.

Celebrating a 30-year career in hairdressing, Helen’s eclectic passions for creativity, theatre and at one point – motorcycle racing – have shaped her innovative approach to the industry.

“The leathers I used to race in were named Tiger Angel.  To me it represented two sides of a personality and I carried that through to the naming of Tigerlamb,’’ she said.

“The name illustrates that we are available to all genres – masculine, feminine, strong, meek, funky, traditional wild, conservative, young or old.’’

“I also have a love for the theatre, which explains the creativity that envelopes the design of all our salons.

“When I started work as an apprentice, I shared a house with a group of actors at Petrie Terrace. We lived next to Crazies Comedy restaurant where I worked at night after hairdressing during the day.

I continued my love of the arts with the Queensland Theatre Company and was involved in La Boite Theatre Company for many years.

“I am blessed to have some of the heart of these experiences presented in the slightly theatrical stage we have created in our salons.”

Helen’s career has also taken her to London and Milan where she worked as a session stylist for high end brands, had a celebrity clientele in Hampstead and styled hair on production sets for music video clips.

The Tigerlamb team has also styled locks at Sydney, Brisbane and New York Fashion Weeks and Fashion Festivals.

Having cultivated an enviable reputation in Brisbane, Helen said Tigerlamb’s focus was on “creating beautiful healthy hair’’.

“Our thorough consultations allow us to understand and cater for all levels of investment our guests choose to make in their hair. I would describe our services as affordable luxury,‘’ she said.

“We specialise in blonde colouring and are experts in colour correction, with our services heavily geared towards cutting, colouring and styling whether for maintenance or a complete makeover.’’

WARA SUSHI ON TREND AT MONTAGUE MARKETS

With sushi one of the hottest trends in Australian dining, foodies take note.

At Montague Markets, you can soon be savouring steaming ramen or the delicate delights of Okonomiyaki – an exciting and growing new restaurant chain.

Wara Sushi, under the guidance of former civil engineer Tony Choi, is about to open its 11th restaurant in Queensland in the space of six years, and has chosen West End’s Montague Markets as the location.

“I spent a lot of time at West End when I was working as a civil engineer,’’ said Mr Choi, who is enjoying the challenge of his relatively recent career switch.

“I like the vibrancy and the family demographic of the area and with the opening of our new restaurant at Montague Markets we are excited to be part of it all,’’ he said.

Mr Choi said that besides aiming to create the best-tasting sushi in Australia, Wara Sushi also owed its success to its vibrant store fit-outs, state-of-the-art kitchen equipment and IT systems.

The restaurant venture now employs more than 200 staff.

“We opened our first store at Logan in 2014. I chose to enter the restaurant industry because my mother was a shop owner and my father was a shopfitter,’’ said Mr Choi.

“It was an ideal foundation for launching a business. My father has been involved in all of the fit-outs and although now semi-retired will be looking in on Montague Markets as well.’’

Wara Sushi will feature a rotating sushi bar along with a tablet menu ordering system. The 150 square metre floorplan meanwhile has been designed to accommodate up to 70 diners.

The convenience of the sushi bar is perfect for office workers seeking a tasty, healthy lunch served up quickly. Diners can also sit at a table for a relaxed local experience.

It’s licensed – so you can order sake, among other beverages, as well.

While the menu changes with the seasons, among perennial favourites are The Lion King (a grilled scallop roll covered in a cheesy sauce and torched on top) and the Dynamite roll (featuring deep-fried chicken for lovers of spice).

SYDNEY RETIREES FLOCK TO MONTAGUE MARKETS FOR LIFESTYLE

When Sydney locals Bill and Kathleen decided to downsize, nothing compared to the apartment size, amenity and lifestyle offered at Montague Markets West End.

Bill and Kathleen Coote have been living in their current Sydney home and raising their family in a large house for more than 26 years. Like many retirees, they began thinking recently about their lifestyle and considering their living options for the future.

Regular visitors to Brisbane to see their daughter and grandchildren, on a recent trip to West End the couple decided to investigate what apartments they could find in the area that suited their lifestyle.

“We had been looking to downsize for a little while but couldn’t find anything in Sydney that suited our budget,” said Bill. “When we found our apartment at Montague Markets we were very impressed with the design, size and lifestyle offered.”

Having lived in a large family home in Sydney for many years, Bill and Kathleen wanted to downsize to something more manageable in a great location but didn’t want to compromise on the spacious living areas they had grown accustomed to.

With a large extended family of 12 children and grandchildren, the couple needed space for family BBQs and other get-togethers.

“Other apartments in the area couldn’t compare on size and quality,” Bill said. “What attracted us to Montague Markets was the generous size of the lounge, dining and master bedroom. The balcony is also very large at more than 100sqm which will be perfect for the grandkids.”

Apart from the size of their apartment, Bill and Kathleen were also attracted to the design of the apartments. The retirees opted for a light colour scheme for their apartment and were very impressed with the design and layout options.

Consideration for their future was also an important factor for Bill who said that the project offered everything they needed.

“We don’t have to go anywhere,” Bill said. “Everything is here that we need which is good as we are getting older. I don’t know anywhere else in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne that you can get everything you do here at Montague Markets.”

We look forward to welcoming Bill and Kathleen to their new home at Montague Markets this September.

OLD WORLD CHARM ALWAYS IN STYLE

Old world charm will reign when Bou’s for Men – one of the pioneers of Brisbane’s burgeoning barber shop revival – opens its doors at Montague Markets & Residences this spring.

Bou’s for Men is among the new speciality shops counting down to the launch of the retail component of our exciting first stage, which will also incorporate a  full-line 3,400sqm Woolworths supermarket.

“I can’t wait,’’ said Bou’s for Men director Simon Bou-Samra, pictured. “I intend to make it one of our flagship salons.’’

With 10 salons in Brisbane and Toowoomba – and two more on the way including Montague Markets – Bou’s were one of the first to herald a reimagining of the traditional barber shop when they opened premises in Adelaide Street, the City, in 2006.

Although venturing into a barber shop can be akin to discovering a world of yesteryear, the service has struck a chord with modern men of all ages from their twenties through to the fifties and beyond.

Barber shops are becoming the new ‘’day spas’’ for men, said Mr Bou-Samra. “Here they can spoil themselves when it comes to grooming.’’

They come not only for the quality haircuts but the laid back atmosphere replete with soft rock melodies and gentle banter.

Wet shave treatments and cut-throat razor lather shaves are also on offer. Indeed, receiving a clean shave with a straight blade administered by a skilled craftsman is something of a prized experience.

“When the disposable razor was invented, it spelt the demise of many traditional barber shops,’’ Mr Bou-Samra said.

“In recent years, however, we have seen their rejuvenation, and it seems Brisbane is a leader in the industry.

“The straight blade shave is an integral part of the experience. Here, it’s the full shave with a hot towel service.’’

With shops in a range of locations including Portside Wharf, and Creek and George Streets, city executives seeking to look their best as well as receive an ample amount of old-fashioned service  make up a large proportion of customers at Bou’s.

With a youthful outlook and edgy style, Mr Bou-Samra – a professionally trained barber – is looking to introduce a lighter ambience to the Montague Markets salon.

Describing the style of the fitout as mid-century modern, Mr Bou-Samra said it would be a departure from traditional designs, and  relatively roomy with timber floors and four chairs.

“I see Montague Markets as a good fit for our business, and in the heart of a gentrified area by the waterside, which is traditionally great for service industries,’’ he said.

FIVE SIMPLE STYLING TIPS FOR APARTMENT LIVING

By following a few simple rules, you can showcase your beautiful new home at Montague Markets to its full advantage. We speak to the experts at interior designers Noble House, the stylists behind one of our amazing new display apartments.

Noble House interior designer Kayla Qualischefski says while there’s some science to maximising the mood and visual appeal of any residential space, her best advice is to take it slowly.

“The main thing is to realise you don’t have to go out and buy everything at once. Install your biggest pieces of furniture, such as the sofas and the beds, and layer up from there.

“Colour is a very personal choice. People with big personalities tend to go for brighter, louder colours but no matter what your preferences, it’s always a little easier when you have a basic knowledge of the rules of design.’’

By the numbers: The classic 60-30-10 decor rule is extremely useful when designing a room. It contends that 60 per cent of a room should be a dominant colour, 30 per cent should be the secondary colour and 10 per cent should be accent colour.

You can simplify your colour conundrums for instance by choosing a neutral colour as a base for your your big ticket items, such as a bed.

Linen colours, greys and walnut timber are timeless choices here, making up 60 per cent of the colour. Add quilts, coverings and throw rugs in proportions of 30 and 10.

In the apartment styled by Noble House, the neutral linen base is the main colour, complemented by navy blue as the secondary shade.

Navy is said to impart a calming effect, so it’s a perfect choice for your inner-city retreat. It never goes out of style and matches well with just about any hue.

In this case, a fashionable shade of mustard provides a lively counterpoint to the navy, while a smattering of brass-coloured objects provide further visual interest.

While you can theme each room, it is a good idea to ensure that a common thread of base colour runs through all spaces.

Become a storyteller: Designers love to employ vignettes, or small groupings of objects that tell a story, so that people can invisage themselves living in a space. For instance, a kitchen might feature a recipe book, a bowl of fruit, wine glasses and such.

Typically, the objects are of different sizes and arranged in a basic pyramid shape instead of being thrown together at random.

Arrange objects in odd numbers – threes, fives and so on. Objects put together in odd numbers are more visually appealing than even-numbered groupings.

It’s a more conscious way of arranging your keepsakes and it can be a lot of fun experimenting with what works and what doesn’t.

Like anything in design, the seemingly effortless approach belies the amount of thought that goes into it.

Scale and proportion: When styling an apartment, you will need to pay particular attention to the proportions of your furniture to the spaces as well as to each other. Again the 60-30-10 rule applies.

To ensure ease of navigation throughout the rooms, remember to measure all pieces before you purchase them. Make sure your main items, such as the dining table, occupy roughly 60 per cent of the allotted space for furniture.

Psychology of colour: It’s no secret that colour creates mood.

A bright red couch may well “pop’’ in a space large enough to carry it off. However, remember that red can be quite a ‘’draining’’ colour and you may tire of it relatively quickly.

If you want bursts of colour, you could consider artworks, cushions and rugs.

How long will it last? Although professional designers pay close attention to the longevity of individual items of furniture, homeowners are also becoming increasingly aware of product quality.

Ms  Qualischefski says residential clients, particularly those with children and pets, are increasingly enquiring about the Martindale rating of furniture. The rating is a measure of the durability of upholstery, and in essence how well the fabric withstands constant rubbing.

The best design is where form and function intersect. Glass-covered coffee tables, for instance, not only look smart but the glass prevents coffee mug rings on the timber it covers.

A touch of greenery: With high-end artificial plants virtually indistinguishable from  the real thing, why not add a touch of greenery to your apartment?

It’s definitely on trend and nothing says “lush’’ like cascading foliage in apartments.  And for those without a green thumb, it’s a perfect solution.
