Montague recognised as national award finalist

Pradella’s highly successful residential development, Montague Markets & Residences, has been recognised as a finalist in the prestigious national The Urban Developer awards for 2021.

A finalist in the Development of the Year – High-Density Residential category, Montague Markets & Residences sets a new standard in resident exclusive recreational amenity.

Both stages, Montague Residences and Ferry Residences, were highly popular with buyers and sold out in months despite the difficult economic climate caused by COVID-19.

The overwhelming success of the first stage, Montague Markets, led to the second stage, Ferry Residences, being fast-tracked months ahead of schedule and ultimately selling out in five months.

A showcase of function and form, the project represents a fusion of residential and retail while embracing the location’s attributes.

Montague Markets & Residences will be on show for the judges during upcoming site inspections in July ahead of winner announcements in September.

Strong demand creates sell-out success

The countdown is on to the opening of Montague Markets’ second stage Ferry Residences, with Pradella’s landmark shopping, dining and residential lifestyle hub a runaway sales success.

Not only did both stages sell out in quick succession, all apartments in Ferry Residences were snapped up in an incredible five months – highlighting the surging demand for luxury apartments on the West End Peninsula.

An unparalleled lifestyle

Montague Markets, complete with a full shopping and dining precinct,  is at the forefront of  premium apartment living within the 4101 postcode.

We are now reaching the last stages of construction of Ferry Residences, with its completion anticipated within the next few months.

It will be the final addition to Montague Markets, which has been redefining the meaning of lifestyle as the crowning glory of Pradella’s visionary $1 billion Riverside Precinct since its opening last September.

Residents of Ferry Residences will enjoy shared access to the same unparalleled resident amenities, including more than 2,000 square metres of private recreational facilities, including a 20-metre lagoon pool and shaded lounge deck, outdoor cinema with sculpted viewing platforms, yoga space and lawn area with a waterfall backdrop.

Each apartment features a generous entertainer’s kitchen with premium European appliances and stone bench tops, 2.7m high ceilings, floor to ceiling glazing, ducted air-conditioning, and secure parking.

Boutique living never looked so good

Montague Markets’ fabulous shopping and dining precinct – serving as West End’s new entertainment hub – is just one of the many things setting the development apart.

Showcasing one of the most modern Woolworths supermarkets in Australia, the store – complete with a range of innovations including a Cheese Cave, Fish Market, Artisan Bakery as well Drive-Thru facilities –  been popular with shoppers far and wide since its opening six months ago.

Montague Markets also features Brisbane’s first subtropical laneway and alfresco dining zone  and is highly accessible with 280 underground carpark bays, pedestrian and cycling paths and bike storage facilities.

A full complement of speciality retailers is now in place and includes BWS, espresso bar Cheeky Bean, Bou’s for Men barber shop, Tigerlamb hair salon, Ollie and Lloyd homewares, La Diva Nails, Wonderful Massage West End, Montague Markets Pharmacy, Clear Skincare Clinic, Top Health Medical and Healthcare Hub, as well as restaurants Voglia, Da’Burger, Fat Dumpling and Wara Sushi

Healthcare Hub West End is now open!

A unique medical precinct designed as a “one-stop healthcare destination’’, Healthcare Hub West End is now open at Montague Markets.  Adding to the convenience is the easy access to two hours of ample free undercover car parking.

Healthcare Hub West End offers a wide array of healthcare services, including a GP and skin cancer clinic, radiology, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, Pilates, massage therapy, psychology and mental health services, pathology and more.

An initiative of three former University of Queensland classmates, Dr Jack Ku, of Top Health Doctors, and Dr Patrick Bergin and Dr Carl Kua of Queensland Radiology Specialists, the hub enjoys a premier location.

“Healthcare Hub West End is located on the first floor of Montague Markets and brings together a wide spectrum of health services for all age groups,’’ said Dr Ku.

“We believe this model of comprehensive health care sets a new standard for inner-city areas.

“This will be Top Health Doctors’ fifth clinic in Brisbane, and we are especially excited with this precinct because of its convenient location and the sheer amount of services available at the hub.

“GPs from Top Health Doctors are skilled in a range of areas from general health to skin cancer treatment, ear micro suction, musculoskeletal medicine, acupuncture, allergy testing and chronic pain management.

“Combined with GPs, specialist and allied health services, there is little else like this precinct on Brisbane’s inner southside.’’

Dr Ku said the hub would also benefit from its proximity to Montague Markets Pharmacy, which opened in September.

Dr Bergin said Queensland Radiology Specialists offered a full suite of radiology and medical imaging.

This includes x-rays, ultrasound, MRI and CT scans, CT coronary angiography and bone densitometry to assess potential osteoporosis, mammography, and body composition scanning. CT and US guided procedures including biopsy, and steroid and local anesthetic injections are provided as well.

“Our state-of-the-art equipment at Montague Markets will set a new standard in modern medical imaging,’’ said Dr Bergin.

“We aim to make you welcome, not take up too much of your time and feel comfortable at all times.’’

Revive West End, also located within the hub, offers clinical hands-on physiotherapy as well as Pilates, exercise physiology, functional movement re-training and massage. An expert team of health professionals help people to enjoy life with more energy and less pain and stiffness.

Pilates workouts employ a range of specialised equipment including the Reformer, trapeze table, Wunda Chair, Spine Corrector and Ladder Barrel.

Marie Carmody Psychology Service meanwhile has relocated from Wickham Terrace and works with patients in a broad range of areas including post-traumatic stress, personality difficulties, relationship issues, stress, fatigue  and workplace bullying, mood changes, loss of self-esteem, grief and loss.

The practice also helps patients come to terms with major life adjustments such as job changes, retirement, and diagnosis of chronic illness.

Medlab Pathology, one of Australia’s largest, privately owned pathology practices, has also opened a clinic at Montague Markets and completes the hub as a convenient, one-stop destination. Established in 2001, Medlab Pathology provides a comprehensive range of services to GPs, specialists, medical centres and nursing homes in Queensland and New South Wales.

Medlab Pathology General Manager Mannu Kala said having easy access to a one-stop health hub saved patients’ valuable time.

“For a lot of their health care needs, patients simply don’t have to set foot off the West End Peninsula now,’’ said Mr Kala.

“We’re thrilled to be at the forefront of this innovation at Montague Markets and are looking forward to working with staff as well as patients from the hub’s various medical disciplines.’’

With weekends spent scouring the famous Amalfi Coast in his native Italy for new dining experiences as a younger man – Vito Mandarano always knew he would one day open his own restaurant.

Vito and wife Bradie are now bringing that passion to Montague Markets with their newest fully licensed venture, Voglia – which translated means “wish’’.

It’s apt – for food and the wondrous flavours of the southern Italy have always been close to their hearts.

For a sneak peek inside Voglia Italian restaurant, click here for a walk-through animation.

“Some people buy cars or play golf – when I lived in Italy I used to travel around the country to find the most beautiful restaurants.

“I would spend weekends on the Amalfi Coast seeking out the finest dining in a region renowned for its food.

“At Voglia, we will be bringing those intense, authentic dishes of southern Italy, where the flavours really sing, to West End.’’

A large menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner and more. The restaurant incorporates everything from a front counter for casual takeaway fare such as muffins and coffee, to tables for gourmet burgers and pizzas, along with a full a-la-carte fine dining experience in the evening.

Breakfast features dishes ranging from pancakes to The Montague – a hearty meal of eggs, bacon, chipolatas, mushroom, avocado, potato rosti, corn fritter, baked tomato, and toasted sourdough with a side of tomato relish and butter.

The burgers meanwhile feature a tantalising array of ingredients, from the Troppo Buono – with its buttermilk-fried chicken thighs, pancetta, chipotle mayo, lettuce and and cheese sauce, to the Si Si – a combination of Italian sausage, herbed mayo, fried zucchinin and eggplant, lettuce and haloumi.

In the evening, diners can select from a range of handmade pastas and antipastas to mains such as the Bisteccona’s grass-fed rib on the bone, and Piovra with its grilled octopus bathed in a light citrus vinaigrette complemented by a pocket of rocket salad.

“We are offering a full Italian experience to suit all tastes,’’ said Vito.

Since arriving in Australia 20 years ago, Vito has worked in all facets of the restaurant industry.

A clever latte artist, his experience as a barista is well demonstrated by the artistic swirls and patterns he effortlessly constructs from steamed milk on the surface of his coffees.

“At one stage I was making about 4,000 coffees a week, and all up I’ve probably made more coffees than there are Australiuan citizens.

“So I’ve had plenty of practice, but I’m also a perfectionist. It’s the attention to all the details that really add up.’’

As for his own favourite dish, Vito has a fondness for a classic Spaghetti alla Nerano (pictured), a dish that has come to define the Sorrentine peninsula and in particluar the area around Nerano for which it was named.

A simple but elegant arrangement, egg spaghetti is served with chilli, garlic, whire wine zucchini, onions, rich heirloom tomatoes, pancetta pangrattato and calamari fritti.

“In this case, less is more,’’ said Vito.

Cracking Colombian coffee and shockingly bad humour, with an ever changing array of naughty snacks on the side.

The wildly popular Cheeky Bean Espresso Bar, which has been dispensing a daily morning pick-me-up to West End locals for a half dozen years, is making its way to Montague Markets.

“We’ve gained quite a following here at West End,’’ said owner Kathy Bush. “In fact, I have heard of some people driving from 20 minutes away just so they can taste our coffee.’’

Whether it’s the Columbian beans, the lightning quick service, the consistently good brews, the corny Dad jokes – or all of the above – something is setting Cheeky Bean apart in a world where’s there coffee shops on every street corner.

According to Ms Bush (pictured above with brother Craig McTaggart), you can’t underestimate the value of consistency ands that’s why at Cheeky Bean there’s one bean to rule them all.

“We source our beans from a local, boutique roaster in Yatala and we treat them with love.

“When handled well the beans produce a smooth, full-bodied brew with chocolately undertones. It is unique and delicious and has a broad appeal.

“It’s one of the keys that keeps people coming back. And because it’s not a common bean it gives us a point of difference.’’

A former school teacher, bakery owner and travelling sales rep, Ms Bush was a novice in the coffee trade when she and her brother, Craig, bought their first espresso bar at 206A Montague Road five-and-a-half years ago.

Together with partner, John Tuaoi, and brother Craig, she has injected personality into the tiny hole-in-the-wall that has become known as a great destination for coffee in West End.

“None of us knew how to make coffee back then, but we knew how to run a business.

“We are excited about our location in Montague Markets because the Woolworths supermarket will draw in residents from throughout the surrounding area and we can’t wait to get started.’’’

Cheeky Bean’s 35 square metre premises in the heart of the precinct will be open seven days a week, offering a range of treats in addition to the coffee.

Takeaway coffee will be available in two sizes – the 6oz (175ml) single shotand the 12oz (350ml) double shot.

“We aim to make your coffee just the way you like it so please don’t hesitate to ask. Our baristas are always up for a chat and a laugh and will very quickly know your name and your preferred brew.’’

Options include Zymil, Milk Lab almond, coconut, oat, Vitasoy and Bonsoy milk, and there’ll be a range of smoothies, hot chocolate, chai and iced drinks on offer too.

The three varities of smoothies on offer are chock full of ingredients. “On The Greens” combines spinach, kale, apple, cucumber,  banana, pepitas, coconut water and lemon.

“Oxi Boost’’ meanwhile has blueberries, raspberries, apple, pepitas, chia and sunflower seeds, green tea and coconut water, while “Banana Bender” consists of banana, dates, oats, honey, cinnamon and coconut water. Optional in all is vegan protein powder.

While Cheeky Bean is renowned for its coffee, they also offer a mouth-watering array of tempting treats to tickle your tastebuds.

There are daily fresh muffins from a local West End bakery, a delicious range of wholesome slices, energy balls, protein bars, Pog Balls, giant cookies, gingerbread people, organic pies and other sweet and savoury pastries.

Meet Michael Laws – who is soon to be West End’s newest community pharmacist.

Mr Laws is the Managing Partner at Montague Markets Pharmacy, which opens in September, a family-owned, independent store with convenience at its core.

Ideally located near the Healthcare hub being created in the Montague Markets retail precinct, the pharmacy also benefits from an abundance of off-street parking at the new development.

With 13 years of experience, Mr Laws prides himself on being approachable and only too happy to dispense professional advice as well as prescriptions.

“We are an independent operator, so the owner works in the store. I’ll have a key role in dispensing medications and I pride myself on our being approachable.

“Making yourself available to offer professional advice is a major part of building relationships with customers.

“The easy access to parking is another point of difference for us at Montague Markets.

“Together with our convenient opening hours, it’s ideal for people from here to Highgate Hill who can pop in on their way to and from the city.’’

Another partner in the pharmacy is Brisbane businessman Andrew Grant-Taylor.

Keen to help establish a sister operation to a highly successful Paddington Central Pharmacy on Latrobe Terrace, Mr Grant-Taylor described Montague Markets as a prime location .

“West End is an excellent location for a business such as ours, enhanced by our position near to the Healthcare hub as well as other retailers including Woolworths,’’ said Mr Grant-Taylor.

“Supermarket shoppers will be able to park at the centre, drop their prescription in on the way in and pick it up on their way back.

“We are also looking forward to supporting the doctors in the Healthcare hub and helping to provide a focus for the community’s health needs.’’

Growing up in house above a Lutwyche pharmacy – and with his mum and dad both chemists – it is perhaps no surprise Andrew Grant-Taylor made his way into the profession.

Mr Grant-Taylor recognised the importance of location early in his career, which began at pharmacy in the heart of Carindale Shopping Centre in the late 1970s.

“Very few opportunities arise like Montague Markets arise. I’m impressed with the feel of the retail precinct and the density of living being established between Montague Road and the river is another attractive feature.’’

The pharmacy will open 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on Sunday.

It will offer a Webster packing service to take the stress out of remembering your medications, a prescription reminder service, in-store vaccinations, blood pressure monitoring, blood glucose testing,  and arranging absence from work certificates.

A wide range of vitamin supplements will be stocked along with skincare products from La Roche-Posay, Avene, and Natio.

The pharmacy is also set up with software to process e-scripts, currently being trialled in Queensland.

E-scripts allow doctors to generate a “token’’ that is then sent to the patient, or their carer, by text or email.

The patient can then go to a pharmacy, which has the appropriate software, to have their prescription dispensed.

Whether you are gift hunting for someone special or simply treating yourself, it’s easy to enjoy some retail therapy exploring Ollie & Lloyd’s veritable treasure trove of gifts, homewares and furniture.

The popular retailer will be among a burgeoning array of exciting stores opening at Montague Markets & Residences this spring.

Blaine Ballerini and Paul Alcock, who own Ollie & Lloyd at Gasworks, Newstead, see Montague Markets as a logical extension of the brand.

“We see so many similarities in the two areas,’’ said Mr Ballerini. “And the reason it sparked our interest was knowing Woolworths was going to be an anchor tenant in the new retail precinct of the development.

“We see West End as a very good fit for our business, with the demographic not dissimilar to Newstead.

“The new store at Montague Markets will be identical in size and product mix.’’

The pair, who opened their first Ollie & Lloyd store in Brisbane in 2007, include a large range of Missoni, Glasshouse and Kip & Co products among the hundreds of items in stock.

A vibrant new textiles collection from Melbourne design duo Bonnie and Neil will feature at the September opening, as well as colourful, new season shirts from Wolff Blitz.

“We stock hundreds of homeware items, gifts, cards and furniture,’’ said Mr Ballerini.

“We’re not a linen and beige store. A lot of our products are colourful, quirky and fun.’’

In a similar vein, you could say the pair’s sense of quirkiness has its pawprints all over the name of the store itself.

Named after their dalmation (Oliver) and tabby cat (Lloyd),  it’s a talking point for anyone who enquires.

While the two pets never actually set foot in an Ollie & Lloyd store, they certainly add to the colour.

“We stock a lot of what we like ourselves – but we also devour a lot of information from magazines and social media about trends and fashion,’’ said Mr Ballerini.

“It’s not a simple process and we often travel to inspect first hand many product lines before buying them. Particularly successful for us, for instance, has been the first-born gifting market as well as greeting cards that you wouldn’t normally find.

“We also have an exclusive Brisbane range of Missoni Home products from high quality, brightly coloured towels to bath robes, mats, throws, cushions, floor rugs and wallpaper.’’
